The offline world

This is part of the farm in El Salvador. There are mango trees close by. I will be growing corn here and feed the animals with them. Why grow forage crops when you can just as easily grow corn, I say. Cagayan de Oro City is great for farming and growing things.

Web Resources

There seems to be an endless list of available resources on the Internet. I could never get over the realization that the Internet is just a vast resource of anything you could think of. Add to the fact that there seems to be a continuous improvement in the way that these resources are being classified and indexed and you get something which absolutely staggers the mind.

I remember when I tried to get a modem working. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing but I had a modem hooked up to one of the serial ports of my computer and I was stumped as to what step came next. These days we take the internet for granted and consider it to be one of the things that is always there and we raise a howl whenever the service goes out.

Static HTML Websites

I have been making websites using open-source templates and html-kit, an editing software which I find to be both easy to use and has all the features that I need for making simple websites that are compliant with the current html specifications. I had tried other tools which are more feature-rich and snappy but I found them to be difficult to use. When I first thought of becoming a website-maker of sorts I thought the best way to do it was to get a wysiwyg editor which would do the things for me even if I did not know html. That was a wrong premise and after struggling with those editors, I finally concluded that one could not become a webmaster without learning html.

The Internet is full of resourcess which are free and I used up a lot of time trying to find a tool that would make me a webmaster without the pain and the effort. I learned after this experience that the basics were really important, as in everything in life. I could have gone to learning centers where they teach you how to make a website in a few months but I suspect that they will not really teach you the basics. They would probably teach you the new-fangled tools that everyone is raving about. HTML-kit, does it for me.

Website Templates

It is quite easy to make a website if one has a good template with good css. This is not so difficult to do if one just searched for templates. There are many to be found especially free ones. The open source templates are especially good and there is no need to pay for them since they are free. Some other sites that offer free templates have convoluted terms of use which might discourage those who want to try their hand at making a website without having to make their own template. Those open sources on the other hand have really liberal terms which comes to keeping the links to their own sites. This is what they usually ask for when you use their templates and that is for you to keep the credits at the footer which is a way of advertising them. This is only fair, I think.

Come into these sites: Squeak Smalltalk Adventure, The Ordinary Life, Politics: Divine Right of Kings and Presidents, Creation, Life, Consciousness.

I have found some really good designs at Open Source Website Design. Many designers submit their templates there and you can just download these templates. A template with good css is best for a website. There are some templates that rely on tables to organize the different elements on the web page but this is now frowned upon by savvy webmasters

Blogging

It can be difficult to make a website. All the HTML that needs to be understood and used correctly does not really spell e-a-s-y. However, all is not lost for the budding webmaster who needs to get into the Internet. He or she could get into blogging and blog away. Very easily, one can get into blogs and go crazy with it. At first, there is some trepidation and hesitation and a good measure of self-consciousness as writing a blog is akin to baring one's soul to the whole wide world. True. And False. Everyone else is blogging and is more interested in one's words or thoughts or whatever you may choose to style it than in the millions of other products of neurons firing and being cemented as a blog. Ching's World is not a blog. Ching's World thinks that there is something more to be gleaned from its pages than just thoughts and thought patterns. It would be good to know that Ching's World aspires to be something less than simple although Ching's World was meant to be a little more than that.

This snippet comes courtesy of Green Tea and follows the patterns there. Come into these sites: Squeak Smalltalk Adventure, The Ordinary Life, Politics: Divine Right of Kings and Presidents, Creation, Life, Consciousness.

Writing one's thoughts down, blogging as it were, is a self-conscious process unless one likes to write and just keep writing away without any self-consciousness. Or, one could just be caught in the process and keep at it even when the reason for doing so has gone away. That is not really sad because the worth or value of it might not even matter.

WYSIWYG

Being somewhat lazy, I wanted to be a webmaster fast and with the minimum of effort and research. I figured that the best way was to learn a WYSIWYG html editor which would magically creat the HTML for me without me learning a single line of HTML. Doing a Google Search opened a whole lot of choices for me and I proceeded to check each one.

I had heard from people that the tool of choice for expert webmasters was Dreamweaver and I then decided that what was good enough for the expert webmasters was good enough for me. I was going to make my first website using Dreamweaver. Where do I start? Of course, my trusty old Google Search page was going to help me get started. So, off I went searching for "Dreamweave Tuturial".

How was Ching's World created? Why is it that Cagayan de Oro City and Dumaguete are featured in its pages?
